Latinas in Cannabis New York: International Afro Latina Day Celebration

Afro Latinas in Bloom: Reclaiming Space, Power, and Plant Medicine, a Panel Discussion and Afro Latina Day Celebration

We’re thrilled to announce our return to NYC for our Afro Latina Day Celebration, happening Friday, July 25, 2025, at the Dominican-owned Con Bud Dispensary in New York City from 7–10 PM. Titled Afro Latinas in Bloom: Reclaiming Space, Power, and Plant Medicine, this unforgettable evening is dedicated to amplifying the voices, brilliance, and contributions of Afro Latinas in the cannabis space.

Why We Celebrate Afro Latina Day

Afro Latina Day, observed every July 25, traces its origins to a historic gathering in 1992 in the Dominican Republic, where 300 Afro-descendant women from 32 Latin American countries came together to build alliances and develop strategies to fight racism from a gendered perspective. That monumental gathering led to the establishment of the International Day of Afro-Latin American, Afro-Caribbean, and Diaspora Women — also known as Afro Latina Day.

This day is a call to action, reflection, and celebration of the powerful contributions of Afro-descendant women across the Americas. It also falls within the United Nations’ International Decade for People of African Descent (2015–2024), an initiative created to recognize the global struggles, histories, and achievements of people of African descent.

As Afro Latinas continue to face systemic erasure and underrepresentation across industries, including cannabis, it is more important than ever to create platforms that center their stories, expertise, and leadership.

Why This Event Matters

In an industry that has historically profited from the criminalization of Black and Brown communities, Afro Latinas often remain excluded from meaningful opportunities in cannabis. From business ownership to brand visibility, representation still lags — but that is changing, thanks to powerful voices, community-led initiatives, and events like this.

Afro Latinas in Bloom is about more than just visibility. It’s about healing, reclaiming ancestral relationships with plant medicine, celebrating cultural identity, and building solidarity within our broader Latina and BIPOC cannabis communities.

Expect powerful conversations, intentional connection, and plenty of joy — all in celebration of our community’s resilience and power.
